It’s a Very Berry Newget Christmas…

Newget’s favourite Christmas tradition is probably the worst kept secret. Newget likes to keep it simple and fabulous. We love to keep company with the ones we love, and send love out to the ones we miss everyday. There is nothing better than sharing delicious food, refreshing libations and merry cheer.

And chocolate. There is very little that goes better with Christmas than chocolate.

This month we wanted to share with you our latest experiment in our ‘Baking with Newget’ series. Santa is on his way for a visit, and that guy loves homemade cookies (doesn’t everyone!). We’re not sure if Santa has ever gotten to experience the joy of Newget, so we decided to come up with a couple cookie recipes involving delicious Newget bits.

We’re going leave you with this Christmas poem we stumbled upon when reviewing our Newget Employee Handbook. We’re pretty sure it’s one of those things that got lost when “wine happened”.

A Newget Christmas Carol.

‘Twas just a few weeks before Christmas, when all through the city,
Not a creature was purring, not even a kitty;
The stockings were flung at the chimney without care;
The tree looks perfect, but who even knows what the heck will go under there!?

The kids are all smug in their beds,
With visions of upcoming gift spoils dancing in their heads,
And Mom in her fuzzy slippers, and I with my whiskey nightcap,
Are trying to settle our minds around all this Christmas crap!

Our cellphones, emails and lists all full of questions and wonders,
What does everyone want, what does everyone need, we constantly ponder!

Gadgets and gizmos, baubles and jewels,
Who needs all that junk, why are we hoarding like fools?
Tell me, wasn’t your finest Christmasy time,
Filled with sweatpants, family, puzzles and wine?

Fill your house with friends and family, laughter and joy,
Make memories with gingerbread houses, not a new finicky toy;
Fill your bellies with snacks and sweets,
Take some lovely time off your feet;

Bake Santa some cookies, and leave him some Newget;
He asked us to remind you, so don’t you forget it!
Before you slip off to bed to snore like a log,
Leave Santa a note so he can find the rum and eggnog;

Christmas is about giving, it’s not about getting,
Share your love and excitement; let your heart go of its regretting;
Remember the wonder and magic of it all,
And don’t forget, your Mother expects a Christmas morning phone call;

Merry Christmas to you and your family, from us and ours!

With much festive joy,
Love, Newget

How about Pie for Thanksgiving?

Happy early Thanksgiving, Newget friends. Like all holidays that involve the gathering of friends and family over cheerful wine toasts and a delicious meal, Newget loves Thanksgiving.

What’s on your menu for your big meal of thanks? The usual suspects of turkey and stuffing, of course, (’cause you can’t beat tradition). And mashed potatoes and gravy (a staple!), delicious harvest vegetables and how about some cabbage rolls? Mmmm, can WE come over for dinner? We’ll bring our stretchy pants!

While you’re mulling over that self-invite, can we offer you a delicious suggestion for dessert? How about a side of slices of our seasonal flavor, Perfect Pear Newget, to go with your post dinner coffee and tea?

Or if you’re a pie lover like we are at The Newget Kompany, how about something a little different than the traditional pumpkin and pecan?

Something like.. Newget flavor inspired pie!

Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger did some kitchen experimenting this past week and came up with a pie inspired by our Berry Blast Newget flavours. And the result was delicious and 100% Dad approved.

Newget Berry Blast Pie with Almond Streusel Topping

Crust: Use your own family secret crust recipe, or buy your favorite grocery store pre-made pie crust (don’t fret, we won’t tell if you don’t tell).

Filling:Berries in Pie

4 cups of berries (Fresh or frozen, we would suggest cranberries, blueberries and maybe even some raspberries)

1/2 cup Minute Tapioca

1 1/2 cup White Sugar

(Mix together, add to pie crust)

Almond Streusel Topping:

1 cup OatsPre Pie

1/2 cup Slivered Almonds (blanched)

1/2 cup Flour

1 cup Brown Sugar

1 tbsp Cinnamon

1/2 cup Butter

(Mix together, crumble over the pie before baking)

Bake at 350, for about 45 minutes. You will need to bake about 15 minutes or so longer if you are using frozen berries. And if crust starts to get too brown, cover the edges with tin foil.

Post Pie

For that extra bit of awesome, before serving, add some finely chopped bits of White & Dark Berry Blast on top of the pie when it comes out of the oven. Or if you don’t have any Newget on hand – and we just don’t know why you wouldn’t, online ordering is easy breezy! - melt bakers semi sweet chocolate and drizzle on top!

Slice of pie

And there you have it, a delicious Newget inspired pie, just as difficult to resist as its flavour namesake.

Whatever you do for your Thanksgiving long weekend, we hope you have a wonderful fun and food filled family holiday!!

Love, Newget
